J. N. Thorp Goes to the Symphony
J. N. Thorp School primary violin students participated in the Merit School of Music Program in a concert, which took place Thursday, April 26, 2012 in the morning. In the partnership program, Thorp School provides band and violin instruction to their students twice a week. The students are instructed by a gifted teacher, Ms. Kristin Hedlund.
After a successful year and season, the students were selected by their teacher to perform with about 500 students around the city in the MeritFest Program that took at the Chicago Symphony Center, Thursday, April 26, 2012. The coordinator of the Merit School of Music Program stated that our students displayed great potential that earned them this wonderful opportunity. It was highly unusual for young first year violin students to share in this event but they displayed great musicianship. The school coordinator, Mrs. Ida Harris-Thompson, oversees the program at Thorp. She ensures the students are present, they practices, the parents are aware of events, oversees uniforms and performance attire. As the students performed, she, along our wonderful parents and the principal stood with pride is they performed.
The school will continue this partnership with Merit School of Music to continue to grow more students in the arts.
